The Middle East sports economy is undergoing a structural transformation. Vision 2030, the UAE National Sports Strategy, and a wave of sovereign wealth investment in elite sports are creating unprecedented demand for digital infrastructure.

Key Themes

Our research, drawing on conversations with federation executives, club CEOs, and government sports authorities, identified five dominant themes shaping technology adoption across the region.

1. Federation Digitisation is a Priority

National sports federations — historically underinvested in technology — are now being pushed to digitise as a prerequisite for international recognition and grant eligibility. FIFA, World Athletics, and the FIH all require member federations to meet minimum digital standards.

2. Data Sovereignty is a Real Concern

UAE and Saudi entities are increasingly requiring that sports data — player biometrics, match data, financial records — be stored on locally-hosted or in-country cloud infrastructure. This creates both a challenge and an opportunity for regional SaaS providers.
